How does waking up to the most gorgeous view, breathing in fresh air as you sip on a warm cup of coffee, sound? Pretty amazing, right? That’s exactly how your morning could go if you stay at West Coast Wilderness Lodge. Just a hop, skip and jump from Vancouver, this lodge’s scenic beauty and unique charm make it perfect for relaxation, business retreats, and everything in between.

After hopping on the ferry at Horseshoe Bay, I set out with a few women in business for a retreat put on by In Great Company Society – some I knew, some I didn’t. But by the end of those two days, after everything we experienced, these ladies had become my new business besties.

Arrival and Cozy Cabin Check-in

From the moment you drive onto the property, the rustic charm of the cabin-style rooms and main lodge building exudes a sense of cozy calm. My room had a king-sized bed, pull-out couch, patio, and all the comforts to make it feel like home. But to be honest, we didn’t spend much time indoors—there was too much to explore!

Day 1: Workshops and Nature Immersion

Since we were there for a business retreat, we kicked off with a session in the common room after check-in. Not only did they have snacks and coffee waiting for us, but the view from the room was incredible. Being in such a picturesque space really fostered productivity and calm—who wouldn’t want this as a permanent office?

After our first session, we went up to Inlets restaurant for a delicious lunch. I had smoked salmon with cream cheese and crostinis… absolute heaven.

Afternoon Adventure: Guided Kayak Ride

Once our sessions wrapped up, we headed out for a guided kayak ride with Maddy, and OMG, what an adventure it was. In true West Coast fashion, it was raining, but that only added to the magic. We paddled along the shoreline—though some of us got a little off course! Thankfully, Maddy guided us back. The entire trip was around 1.5 hours, a great workout and an unforgettable experience. I haven’t kayaked much, so being that close to the water, surrounded by islands and towering green trees, felt like stepping into a movie. A highlight was spotting sea lions—definitely a memory to cherish!

Dinner by Candlelight: A Memorable Evening

Before dinner, we gathered in the common area for a quick bevie before sitting down at a beautifully set table at Inlets restaurant. Just as we settled in, the power went out. Having worked in the restaurant industry, I know this would typically throw a team into a frenzy—but not the Inlet’s staff. They seamlessly brought out candles, creating a magical ambiance we didn’t even know we needed. I’m still amazed at how the chef managed to cook and beautifully plate such delicious dishes in those conditions. I had the surf and turf… and wow, it was SO good!

Day 2: Forest Nature Walk and Farewell

Our final day arrived, and it was hard to believe we’d only checked in the day before. To wrap up the retreat, we went on a guided forest walk with Maddy. Surrounded by towering trees and taking in the fresh air, I felt so grounded. Maddy led us to a serene lake, perfect for quiet reflection and soaking in nature’s beauty. Afterward, we headed back to Inlets for breakfast, where I enjoyed the smoked salmon benny. What a perfect ending to the trip!
